Moving rental properties can be costly, particularly when a new bond is required before a previous bond has been refunded.
The NSW Government has started rolling out Smart Rental Bonds, a new optional scheme that can help eligible tenants transfer their existing bond when moving to a new rental property. This may reduce the need to pay a second bond upfront, although the scheme is currently only available in selected postcode areas and is being introduced gradually across NSW.
If your postcode isn’t currently included, you can register your interest and be notified as the rollout expands to additional locations.
As the scheme becomes more widely available, it’s important for both landlords and tenants to understand how it works and whether it may apply to their circumstances.
